Qualitative Research on the Casualisation of the VET Workforce

Jobs & Skills Australia

Wallis Social Research (Wallis) has been commissioned by Jobs & Skills Australia (JSA) to conduct qualitative research to better understand the drivers and impacts of the growth of casual and fixed-term contract employment in the VET teaching workforce, to inform better workforce planning and enhance career opportunities.

Wallis is looking to speak to VET teachers, trainers and assessors in a casual/temporary position and RTO employees with recent experience undertaking corporate functions, such as recruitment and HR.

When will the research take place?

Recruitment for the research will be done throughout July and August. Qualitative interviews will be conducted throughout August 2025.

What does participation in an interview involve?

If you’re a teacher/trainer/assessor, participation will involve completing a task prior to your interview. This task should take about 10 minutes to complete and will need to be sent back to Wallis prior to your interview.

For all participants, the interview will be with a Wallis researcher for around 60 minutes via Microsoft Teams. You will receive a Teams meeting link to the discussion before the date of the discussion.

Participation in this research is voluntary, and you will receive reimbursement for your time. All information you provide will be used for research purposes only. You will not be identified in any reporting.

How do I take part?

If there is someone in your organisation that meets the criteria above, who is interested in participating and available to participate, please contact Shalini Sen, Qualitative Recruitment Coordinator at Wallis, on 03 8620 5618. She is available Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 6 PM AEST.

Otherwise, please email qualitative@wallis.social to express your interest. Please include the information of the person interested in participating so we can contact them directly.

Please note that participation spaces are limited. While we aim to accommodate all expressions of interest, not everyone who registers will be selected to participate in the research.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

If you have any further queries, you can contact Shalini Sen from Wallis on (03) 8620 5618 or email qualitative@wallis.social (including if you are unwell/unable to attend the discussion).
