Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY)

youth-at-school

Wallis has managed the data collection of the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY) - one of Australia’s largest longitudinal surveys -since 2000.

The Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY) follows young Australians as they go through some of life's biggest changes – the later years of secondary school through to post school education, employment, family formation, and in the case of this year's survey – COVID-19. LSAY provides a rich source of information about young people and their pathways, helping researchers and policymakers make educated decisions about youth policies.

Wallis has interviewed and managed the data collection of this study (one of Australia’s largest Longitudinal Surveys) since 2000 interviewing thousands of young Australians each year. In that time the survey has changed dramatically and Wallis has ensured that the information collected is compatible with the past, even though the mode of collection has changed.  The majority of young people are still recruited to the study while they are still at high school.  We have consistently averaged a retention rate over 85% by matching the way we interview them and allow them to interact with us once recruited.

Wallis is a data collector for the Department of Education, Skills and Employment but works closely with NCVER to ensure the results are reliable and available to the public.
